Asian Youth Day (AYD) is a Catholic youth summit in Asian region. The event is held in every three years and attended by more than two thousand Catholic youth from various countries in Asia. The spirit of evangelization is built through many activities in this event. AYD was initiated by the advisor of Catholic Youth of Asia and approved by the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences (FABC) under the Youth Desk of Laity and Family Office.
AYD Events AYD consists of three main events: Days in the Dioceses, Days in AYD’s Venue, and Asian Youth Ministers’ Meeting (AYMM).
Days in the Dioceses (DID) DID is held in 3 days (July, 30th 2017 – August, 2nd 2017); AYD participants live in Dioceses in the host country. The participants come and go directly to the Dioceses which have been chosen for DID. In these Dioceses, the participants learn and share their experiences on their faith. Various activities are held to unite the participants as Catholic people; there are Eucharist, communal prayer, festival, and many other activities. The youth participants come and experience their faith among Catholic people in different country.
Days in AYD’s Venue Days in AYD’s Venue is held in 5 days (August, 2nd – August, 6th 2017). All DID participants gather in a place together with many Catholic youth from various Dioceses. All participants and Catholic youth join the opening ceremony and various activities such as sharing moment, reflection, festival, Eucharist, etc. Catholic youth strengthen each other by having activities together and sharing their experiences on their faith. The next host country is also announced in this event.
Asian Youth Ministers’ Meeting (AYMM) AYMM is held in 3 days (August, 6th – August, 9th 2017). This event is held especially for the advisors of Catholic Youth in Asian countries. The participants are bishops, priests, and people who are involved in national level commission of Youth Desk. Under coordination of FABC (Laity and Family Office), the Youth Desk discuss evaluation of AYD and common goal of Catholic Youth education and companionship in Asia.
Where has AYD been held before? AYD has been held 6 times in different countries. Each event had different theme. The 7th AYD 2017 will be held in Indonesia, particularly in Semarang Diocese. Below is the journey of AYD:
Who can be the participants of Asian Youth Day? Participants of Asian Youth Day is defined by The Diocese that belong to FABC (the registration is not same with World Youth Day). So, if you want to be the participant, you can can call your youth desk.
What will we do as the host country of AYD? We are proud and glad to be the host country of AYD 2017. Therefore, we invite you to join us in this event. You can be a part of the committee, organize events in your dioceses, promote AYD 2017, and last but not least, pray for the goodness of the event. Get yourself involved in AYD 2017, no matter how small it is. WELCOME TO AYD 2017!!!
What about the Catholic Young People who do not take part either as a participant or volunteer in the committees? For Young Catholics who do not directly involved in AYD 7th this year, there’s no need to be discouraged as they can still get involved to liven AYD 7th through participation in the Carnival Cross that is running in parishes in Semarang Diocese. Besides Carnival Cross, Catholic Youth could also enliven this AYD event with activities and sharing experiences in pre-event. What are they?
